The CopernicusLAC Panama Centre will host its next training online between 22 and 26 September 2025. The training will consist of two modules covering the topics “Earth Observation for environmental protection” and “Earth Observation for forest management”.
These natural ecosystems are crucial for biodiversity and community livelihoods. However, they are under increasing pressure due to deforestation, changes in land use, and the impacts of climate change. A key step in improving environmental preservation, reducing disaster risks, and building climate resilience is to strengthen environmental protection and sustainable forest management by leveraging Earth Observation tools.
The training will be delivered in Spanish, is free of charge, and is open to all interested participant
The preliminary programme for the training will cover the following topics:
- Earth Observation applied for environmental protection
This module will equip participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in Earth Observation (EO) for addressing environmental challenges. It will provide a comprehensive understanding of the key role EO plays in environmental protection, focusing on the use of Copernicus free and open data and tools to monitor, analyse, and respond to pressing environmental issues. Through a blend of theoretical insights, hands-on training, and real-world case studies, participants will gain the expertise needed to leverage EO technologies for informed decision-making and proactive environmental management.
- Earth Observation applied for forest management
This module provides training on EO techniques for comprehensive forest monitoring and management. Participants will learn to how to leverage Copernicus satellite data to assess forest ecosystems, track changes, and support sustainable land management. The module covers monitoring forest health, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience, empowering participants to derive critical insights for policymaking, conservation strategies, and the long-term sustainability of forest resources.
