Launch of the CopernicusLAC Panama Centre Digital Campus

On 22 May 2024, the Digital Campus of the CopernicusLAC Panama Centre was officially launched at an event held at SENACYT headquarters, in Panama City.

At the event, Itziar Alonso, responsible for the Centre’s implementation on the European Space Agency (ESA) side, presented the key features of the newly launched Digital Campus, while the Centre’s Liaison Officers Claudia Herrera and Carlos Alvarado gave an overview of the CopernicusLAC website.

During the opening remarks, the head of the EU Delegation in Panama and representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), Panama’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIRE), National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT), and Panama’s Government Innovation Authority (AIG) highlighted the strategic importance of the CopernicusLAC Panama Centre joint initiative, stressing the potential of the Digital Campus for skills development activities in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

Registration to this platform will give access to training materials, MOOC, Jupiter Notebooks and much more, with the aim of facilitating user uptake of the Copernicus Earth Observation free and open data in the region.

In addition, as part of the activities of the Centre, a comprehensive set of trainings, which will take place in-person and online over the next four years, has been designed to increase the knowledge of Copernicus data and showcase a wide range of applications and solutions derived from them. The first one is scheduled to take place from 8 to 12 July 2024 in Panama.
