The CopernicusLAC Panama Centre will deliver its next online training course from 19 to 23 October 2026. The training will consist of two modules covering the topics “Introduction to Earth Observation in Optical and SAR” and “Climate Impact on Agriculture and Food Security”.

The training will be delivered in Spanish, is free of charge and is open to all interested participants.

The preliminary programme for the training will cover the following:

Introduction to Earth Observation in Optical and SAR

This module will address the fundamental aspects of low Earth orbit missions dedicated to Earth observation, including the range of sensors used. It will examine the products offered by Copernicus, highlighting how accessing and using these data can be straightforward and valuable, especially in emergency management and disaster risk reduction. Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of open-source tools for handling and analysing these products, underlining their accessibility and effectiveness.

Climate Impact on Agriculture and Food Security

This module delves into the consequences of climate change for agricultural practices and food security, equipping participants with a nuanced understanding of the intricate links between climate patterns and their effects on crop yields, water resources and overall food production.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, attendees explore the latest advances in satellite data and Earth observation tools provided by Copernicus, gaining valuable insights into monitoring and adapting to climate-related challenges. By fostering awareness and knowledge, the course empowers stakeholders in Latin America to make informed decisions, implement sustainable practices and contribute to agricultural systems that are resilient in the face of a changing climate.
